Dr. K. J. Ramesh is an internationally acclaimed authority in meteorology, climate risk assessment, and disaster management, boasting over 40 years of expertise in weather forecasting, hazard mitigation, and climate services. He has collaborated with more than 20 countries in Asia, Africa, and beyond, aiding in capacity-building, forecasting enhancements, and hazard mitigation strategies. His proficiency includes Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP), Monsoon Forecasting, Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems, Climate Risk Assessment & Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Air Quality Management. His extensive partnerships with global and regional organizations like WMO, UNFCCC, RIMES, and the World Bank have bolstered climate resilience and disaster preparedness worldwide.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ramesh has been instrumental in advancing meteorological services and disaster risk reduction strategies. As the Director General of Meteorology at the India Meteorological Department, he spearheaded the modernization of early warning services and operational forecasting systems. He represented India as its Permanent Representative to WMO (2017-2019), elevating India's role in global meteorology. His leadership in crafting multi-hazard mitigation frameworks and supporting cyclone and flood hazard mitigation projects, including those funded by the World Bank, has left a significant mark. He has also been a key figure in India's delegation to UNFCCC negotiations (2008-2016), influencing global climate policies. His achievements have been acknowledged through esteemed fellowships and the Honoris Causa Doctor of Science awarded by Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology.

Dr. K. J. Ramesh has a Ph.D. in Monsoon Dynamics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and an M.Sc. in Meteorology from Andhra University.
