About the Role
The Data Scientist supports the development of short-term and intraday forecasting models for renewable energy generation using AI/ML, with a focus on integrating meteorological observations, SCADA data, and numerical weather prediction outputs. • Model Development: Design, train, and optimize machine learning models (e.g., XGBoost, ConvLSTM) for day-ahead and 15-min intraday forecasts.
a. Ingest, clean, and merge datasets from forecasts, hindcasts, SCADA, and observation networks.
b. Create meteorologically relevant features (lags, ramps, clear-sky indices).
c. Benchmark model outputs against baseline forecasts (persistence, NWP), track MAE, RMSE, CRPS.
d. Work closely with a team of meteorologists, instrumentation engineers, and software developers to ensure models align with operational needs.
e. Maintain reproducible code, experiment logs, and prepare transfer-ready model packages for the client.
Requirements
Demonstrated expertise in time-series forecasting and machine learning (such as XGBoost, LSTM/ConvLSTM, or equivalents).
Proficient in Python (including pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch).
Hands-on experience with meteorological datasets (NWP, satellite, ground observations).
Knowledge of Weather forecast evaluation metrics and managing large datasets.
Capable of working in a dynamic, milestone-focused R&D setting.
